Gambling in Spain: the need for a geographical perspective

Resumen

Juegos de azar y apuestas en España: la necesidad de una perspectiva geográfica


La práctica social de los juegos de azar y las apuestas ofrece diversas lecturas de interés en el ámbito de las Ciencias Sociales. Una de ellas es la perspectiva geográfica, que incide en las repercusiones espaciales de esta actividad recreativa. Sin embargo, en el ámbito español, existe muy poca literatura científica al respecto, lo que justifica la conveniencia de esta contribución, que tiene como objetivo establecer un marco conceptual y metodológico iniciático. A partir del tratamiento de las distintas fuentes estadísticas y legislativas, se establecen tres niveles de análisis: primero, el panorama español del juego de azar y las apuestas en un contexto internacional; segundo, los patrones de localización a nivel regional dentro de España; tercero, los aspectos espaciales en las distintas normas jurídicas de ámbito autonómico. En conclusión, el juego de azar y las apuestas, como actividad recreativa profundamente implantada en el territorio español, ofrece interesantes líneas de investigación geográfica, si bien sería deseable una mejora de la calidad, variedad  y accesibilidad de los datos.
