Abstract

Urban vegetable gardens are a clear example of introducing Green areas in between city buildings and of reducing air pollution levels. This specific garden is situated next to my apartment. It is a big space, it gets sun light, neighbours water it twice per week and it is open to everyone. The main advantage of this type of garden is for city kids to be able to be in contact with something rural, where they can plant and grow vegetables. Many kids are only in contact with vegetables from the supermarket that are bought by their parents. Furthermore, personal relationships grow between those that take care of the garden. Schools can visit them and kids are surprised by what they discover there. Gardens change the geography of cities and make good use of empty slots, and they are also small green lungs against pollution.
