Abstract

The photograph was taken in Librillos, Murcia and shows a landscape in Sierra Espuña. It is part of the Betic reliefs that were formed in the Tertiary Era, and it is a mountain range composed of permeable limestone rock that produces springs such as the Balneario de Archena. It presents a green mantle composed of a pine forest as a result of the repopulation undertaken by Ricardo Codorníu more than a century ago, with species such as Aleppo pine, maritime pine, black pine, laricio pine and other pine varieties. Declared Regional Park in 1992. In the lower part, we can see the Protected Landscape of the Barrancos de Gebas: the Algeciras reservoir (1995), which collects water from the ravine of the same name, between the Sierras de La Muela and del Cura. Its turquoise waters embrace a landscape of badlands on soft material in a steppe ecosystem. The image is crowned by some good weather cumulus (cumulus humilis).
